The Only way out is Through.
The Only way out is Through.

@manuel_ish © this Piece continues upon my previous Mox vs. Something review.
DenialAs I mentioned Before, Everyone Griefs Different, But Jon Moxley Griefs by Fighting, By being a Leader. not just to the Deathriders, but to the wrestling universe, he is the Ace of the Universe after all, he's a leader, and a leader must not fear whatever challenge is infront of him, even in such a dark time, Mox was the first guy to go to work, he comforted everyone else, wrestled every week, he did his job, but he lost something in doing so, he lost his caution, he started this match underestimation Davis, thinking that this challenge would be on the same difficulty as the Doyle match, he denied the Danger that was infront of him because he didn't want to let us, or the deathriders down, Mox's head was overfilled with so many stuff, that he forgot himself, he forgot that what made him special is how Cautious he was, he Lost himself in an attempt to keep doing his job, he Denied the danger infront of him, and lost himself in doing so.
Fear

Mox underestimated his opponent, and doing so had led him to pay, not physically but mentally, the moment Mox hit that shoulder Bump and he ran away scared, he lost the only thing he had, the one thing he had too much off when the bell rang, Jon Moxley has lost his confidence, he dragged himself into a battle that he is not ready for, this version of mox has never, EVER lost his confidence over the last 18 months, funny enough he is known to have too much of it, and now he stands alone infront of a monster, a monster that he was too afraid to stand across and he wrestled his way out of dealing with it, he stands across his own grief, his own sadness, all alone, without the fans, without the deathriders, he stands across his grief with a scared version of himself, there is no way that mox can pull out of this one, even if he is scared, he knows deep inside that he has to fight, he did fight against Doyle and won in the past, so he fights.
Bargaining

and he loses, Davis is a different type of monster here, he pushes Mox to limits that Mox is physically familiar with, but Mox is different here mentally, he keeps trying until the LAST SECOND, and Davis keeps beating his ass, i would like to stop my usual nerdy analysis and point out that this match wouldn't have been this good without Davis's performance here, he was a perfect monster for Mox to climb, a perfect representation for Mox's grief, back to our point, Mox tries to Bargain his way out of Fighting Davis alone, so he gathers the crowd to fight with him, it always worked for mox, it worked against Davis's tag partner in the past ! Mox is not to blame for trying this method here, he is obviously trying to ignore the obvious, thing that he should do, he's like a kid who's trying to act like he's sleeping when his dad finds his pack of cigarettes, he's trying a plan that he knows will not work, but that is all that he can do, he tries his best to fight like he always fought.
Depression
Until he doesn't, Mox gives up eventually, he tries to power his way back into the ring when the ref almost counts him out, get's hit with an enziguri from Davis, leaves the ring and gives up, he's willing to lose the match just so he won't do what he should, he was scared from that Shoulder Bump, he knows what he should do to win but he won't for the first time in 18 months, Mox gives up, he asks the ref to count him out, he feels alone, empty, soulless, but how can the heart and Soul of AEW and the leader of the deathriders be alone?
this whole scene lasted around 20 seconds, but it is maybe the most important of the entire match, because it leads to one of the best scenes in wrestling, maybe in history.
Acceptance

Jon Moxley has found a place to express himself and others with him, he was the representor for the sick hardcore fans for years, he made them feel normal, he made the flawed, the unperfect, the depressed, the sickos, feel normal, he has taken many people under his wing, he pulled Marina shafir into the Deathriders when she was booked like a mess in ROH/AEW, he saved Daniel Garcia from Daddy Ass lore, he welcomed Claudio with open arms, he made Yuta feel alive again in AEW, when PAC passed away, he stood with his Friends and made them feel better, he wrestled weekly so the fans feel better, he helped all of us, but most importantly, he helped the deathriders and was a leader to them even in the darkest times.
so when the time that mox needed to be led, they were there with him, they reminded him who he was, they reminded him that he has to finish the match, winning or losing, the match has to end, so will he let his Grief, the one thing he bled to avoid win over him? will he lose because he "couldn't keep fighting"? he will let himself, the deathriders, and the people that he left an influence on down, this won't be his hardest battle, and this won't be his last, he has to go through this.
Jon Moxley gets up, as the crowd chants his name, and his friends cheer him on, he gets up and stands to face his greatest fear, he decides to face his Grief, he get's his ass kicked, but he keeps fighting, that's Jon Moxley, that's the leader that we all knew and loved, that is the guy that Pac wanted to see in this match, and Jon Moxley sends a message by doing that perfect brutaliser, looking up at his guardian angel as he chokes Davis out, overcoming his grief and climbing that mountain.
"The Only Way Out is Through."
No matter how scared you are, You can never run away from Grief, for Jon Moxley, Grief was a big bad hairy monster that made him bleed and cry, but if there is a lesson to learn here, is that you have to face grief, no matter how hard it hurts, in the words of Marina Shafir: "there's no way around it, there's no way under it, you have to go through. the only way out is through."
