An Ode to Daniel Makabe.

hey there, i'm what many might call a nerd, a wrestling nerd, and if you're reading this there is a high chance that you are one too, this would normally go on my locked notes but i decided that i wanna put this out there to the world for some reason even though i cringed alot while writing it, but nevertheless, here's what a wrestling nerd thinks of Daniel Makabe.

(this is a venting piece, it's quite nerdy, and boring)

i hadn't had the pleasure to watch Makabe live until the last 3 months of his career, i discovered him when he was on the first DEAN`!! show and i was immediately hooked, there was something so special about the little details that he put into his matches that made me fall in love with his work, and when i asked people about him they told me that he was on his retirement tour and i was honestly pissed, i thought people only retired when they were washed and this guy was still so damn good, little did i know that he was in the PEAK of his career, i kept watching him until his retirement match which was exactly 2 years ago, and i felt sadness, because i knew what it feels like to lose something you love and i KNEW that i was gonna yearn (i'm still yearning btw someone needs to book that Danielson match soon before i go crazy), the way he wrestled was so special and i have never seen it before, his attention to detail made me pop crazy (excuse me for my mark lingo), he was one of the smartest wrestlers that i have ever seen, maybe THE smartest, but he knew what nerves to hit to, he can tickle the brain and the heart art the same tine and he's so damn good at it, he pulled me in, how couldn't he  honestly? he wrestled so many great matches that  was my introduction to so many new wrestlers, so many wrestlers that made me say; "maybe this wrestling stuff isn't so hard?". so i went to my local wrestling school and started wrestling.

Across my learning journey which not even close to ending, i tried so many styles that i can't even count, but one randomly stuck with me, Technical wrestling. and Makabe was the first guy that popped in my head when i wanted to tape study, so i studied him, Dragon, Bengston and Martyr, but it was mostly Makaabe, his attention to detail that made me fall in love with him as a watcher, made me fall in love with him as a trainee too, so i started copying what i learned, i sold my fist in every striking exchange, i bridged with one leg whenever someone targeted my other leg, i started paying attention to details that i'm sure that many would skip, but i didn't want to wrestle for the masses, like Makabe, i was born on the indies (as a watcher), the indies made me want to be a wrestler and most indie fans are huge fucking nerds and i am one of those nerds, so i wanted to wrestle for the nerds and for me.

Daniel Makabe made me believe that a non athletic guy can be a wrestler, he gave me hope in something that was nearly a dream for me, i never wanted to be athletic, i never wanted to do "cool spots", i wanted to wrestle the style that i always loved, i wanted to be myself just like Daniel Makabe was himself, so now, 2 years and MANY delays later i make me debut in a month, and this silly dream of mine wouldn't come true without this wrestling GENIUS. i can only wish to be half the wrestler he was.

a wise man once told me that if i loved this shit like he does, i'm gonna make it, this guy also told me to never stop being a nerd, (if you're reading this you know who you are, im gonna lariat your head off your shoulder in a few years), and i'm finally doing this., it wouldn't be true without Daniel Makabe the wrestling fucking genius can still inspire people even after he retired* so here's my thank you to Makabe for giving me hope.

whenever that "SHOGEN IN ACTION" poster drops, and it will over the next couple of months
it's is for Daniel Makabe
for Robert Martyr
for the love of my life (professional wrestling)
and for myself.
